Order Forms Chaos
The brick is a foundational unit of the modern world – seen as an object of stability, labor and transformation. The image as well is a symbol of modernity, and as Susan Sontag suggests, Capitalism doesn‘t exist without a visual representation of it.

Bricks gathered from the industrial area around Emmenbrücke are used to expose the fragile permanence of the structures we rely on and the material histories within them. The construction material aswell as the area is always changing – from maintenance, conversion, renovation to destruction.

This photographic installation stages the ongoing cycle of building and decay by focusing on the brick as the elemental unit and aligning it with the material quality of the photographic print, its creation, its display and its eventual destruction.
The installation and viewers participation question modern fast building strategies in cost of durability, alongside the materiality of the photograph and the fragility of the art world.
